Flaccid made a controversial, but clearly hilarious and quality contribution to the general forum when he shared, seemingly from his real life experience, a web site he had come across regarding dealing with what to do when your cat is in heat.
Now I personally think his post was great, and that the forum would be happy, no, ecstatic, to have more threads like this. It is what half of the garbage threads try to be. He did it right. He linked, he quoted, he contextualized, he emphasized. It was a comedy gold mine.
Maybe it was inappropriate for the site. Animals? Sex? But I think the context was innocent and everyday enough, since this is something any cat owner can imagine. It's not vulgar, in other words. That's why it's hilarious. It's one of those little things in life that almost are inappropriate but they happen, and it's a great laugh.
So Beyonder, "TL's best moderator" says Nazgul, comes along and closes the topic. As is the norm, Flaccid, nor anyone else, was given any clue as to why it was closed. Sure, we can guess, and build up paranoia, which I guess is what they want TL members to do, but I don't think that's best. Here is a quality poster, and a quality post. He could do so much for the site if only you give him some guidelines. He spent time making this great post, the kind that the General Forum will die without, and it gets shot down by a crybaby who wears his cross around his neck a little too tight, who is too shocked by even everyday funny experiences such as cats in heat.
What's Flaccid do? He writes, what has to be the most perfect request for an explanation, ever. I cannot emphasize this enough. It was brief, it was clear, it flattered the mods (but not too much--perfectly believable), and all he wanted to know was why it was closed, so he wouldn't waste his time (or mod's) in the future, and whether there is a reason why to not PM him a reason so that a topic such as this doesn't have to waste anyone's time. And I'm making it sound much less soft and cuddly than his performance did. Go see it yourself, where everything else good ends up, the TL's Closed forum.
Beyonder's response? "Use your brain, or next time it's a permanent ban." So now this guy, who should be God's gift to TL, is not only having his time wasted by having his topic closed, and now his question unanswered, he is insulted and then temp-banned. God damn it. Fuck Beyonder.

He was banned because he posted a link to lemonparty.org in a thread where someone was asking for War3 websites.
yeah this was a really obvious easy tempban, it's hilarious that you'd write an essay about it, it wasn't controversial at all.
how many people REALLY have a problem with TL's moderation system? a few.
maybe i should rephrase that... how many non-idiots truly have a problem with TL's moderation system? none.
Not controversial at all? Bans can hardly ever become controversial because the only person it directly effects is silenced, and if they are allowed to return, they have a fucking gun to their head.
Besides, the topic gets locked. These topics were both locked to be hushed up before anyone even had a chance to think about them (not that most people would, since it doesn't directly effect them).
So it's laughable that you would say that it was a non-controversial ban. People in your TL bubble aren't even allowed to discuss bans. All discussion is silenced by the threat of bans and bans themselves.
Calling me an idiot because you disagree with me does nothing to the merits of my case, nor does it present any for yours. Any non-idiot surely can see that.
As it stands, TL is a place where people are intimidated into not talking about bans like this, or asking why it was done. TL doesn't have a public messsage saying why it was done. You can say what you want. It looks the way I described it, and we have to be outside of TL to even talk about this and any other "controversy" because it would be instantly halted on TL. Interesting, ain't it?
The ban had nothing to do with the locked threads, and vice versa. Excellent post, misty.
he got banned for the lemonparty link not for the thread, so all your text is wasted, fool
proof? see above, "fool"
Yeah, I am the dude you referenced in your blog who was temp-banned.
Like others have pointed out, the ban was definately to do with my suggestion of lemonparty.org as a valid WC3 resource. But then again, I think WC3 is such a waste of time that playing it really does equate to performing oral sex on old men - but that's not the point.
The only complaint I'd have against any moderation is a lack of consistency. I'd made a similar post some time before - a post where I linked thewillpower.org when somebody was asking for help coming up with a good workout (I dunno, it seemed funny at the time). I wasn't banned or warned for that, and there are numerous cases where people link similar sites as humorous responses and likewise aren't punished.
The point is that I totally deserved the temp-ban, but didn't really know it was coming. I'd rather I'd been temp-banned for the previous post and then the later post would never have happened.
When I first signed up for TL.net with this account, I posted a lot more than I do now. But I can't blame the bans for decreasing my interest. The real culprit is the community itself. Among the 3 or 4 quality posts I find each day is an absolute hurricane of garbage. I understand one man's garbage is another man's treasure - but most replies I'd make would end up being very negative. The majority of the community is made up of pompous, know-it-all, internet philosophers. And they all ride the same bandwagon to work everyday. These are the kind of people I'd have no interest in talking to in my daily travels, likewise on the internet - so I don't.
But the good people and the good posts still make reading the site worthwhile. Like anyone who has been with the site on one name or another for many years, I do feel it's getting worse - but that's just cause I'm getting old. Being nostalgic isn't always about remembering something that's 'actually better'.
Anyways, I remember your posts from TL.net. Too bad 90% of the users who visit the site these days probably don't. Cheers!
Thank you for that post. I really appreciate it.
Drop me a line any time. I feel the same way you do about TLnet. When I was allowed to use it I really had to develop, to a skill, my ability to sift through all the garbage, to emphasize the good threads, and the good posts within them.
Because of how topics are bumped, I think people who do this can really make a difference. And the retards to some degree are kind of necessary. It's the reason that sites like mine don't keep the interest of anyone. It's like, without a background of retards shouting, it's somehow not worth it for two intelligent people to go back and forth.
